Directed by Amy Erbe

Temple of Music and Art Cabaret Space 330 S. Scott Ave

Love, Loss and What I Wore played to sold out houses in NYC for over 1,000 performances.  It showcases 28 different stories illuminating the female identity. Generally comic, the show also addresses issues of the heart.  Nora and Delia Ephron based their play on the 1995 memoir of the same name by Ilene Beckerman, which revolves around the clothing worn at pivotal times of her life. The Ephrons added similarly themed stories presented by four additional characters. The show consists of five women's monologues about wardrobe malfunctions, puberty's relationship with personal wardrobe, first date outfits, lucky underwear, prom dresses, favorite boots, irreplaceable shirts, the detested, disorganized purse, and experiences in the dressing room. The recollections about the clothing prompt the women's memories about their mothers, boyfriends, husbands, ex-husbands, sisters and grandchildren.  Mothers, prom dresses, mothers, buying bras, mothers, hating purses and why we only wear black…

REVIEWS:

"Funny, compelling…Brought down the house…but [the play] is not a comedy: A story about black cowboy boots becomes a sad tale of being underappreciated in a relationship; a tale of two women shopping for their wedding outfits ends bittersweetly; and the recollection of a new bra is a quiet testament to a women's search for dignity while undergoing treatment for breast cancer." —NY Times. "So funny and so powerful; so dear and sweet; so remindful of our female wiles, our worries, our insecurities, our remembrances of mother, father, sisters, brothers, lovers—I think it can't miss." — Entertainment Weekly
