Subject: Call Sheet

1. Nebraska at the Loft.  Don't you hate it when your favorite Academy Award nominated film hasn't come to Tucson by awards night?  Make it better -- check out Nebraska (six Academy Award nominations) at the Loft.  Beer.  Real butter.  You can't help but dig  the new -- it was a garage but now it is a movie theater -- expansion. 3233 East Speedway.

2.  Best On Screen Slap.  Congratulations to James Burton and James Lovin for winning one hundred dollars cash money at IFASA's best on screen slap contest.  Sometimes brute force can be the winning approach.

3.  The Wizard of Oz at Red Barn.  The Red Barn Theater (is not quite as big as Kansas -- or Rhode Island for that matter) but they are putting on The Wizard of Oz.  They are still in search of Monkeys to Munchkins and Dorothy (the girl will the ruby pumps).  Send your resume and headshot to Jeanine Jaquette at estatic-theatrics@yahoo.com.

4.  Kingfisher and More.   The Independent Film Association of Southern Arizona is having their February Valentine's Day Extravaganza Meeting at CoLab (17 East Pennington) on Tuesday February 4 at 7:00PM.  (Going forward -- their meetings will always be on the first Tuesday of every month).  Answer questions about local filmmakers and win: a $200 gift certificate at Kingfisher and a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Champagne and a $50 gift certificate at a Mayfield Florist and a $50 gift certificate at Victoria Secret.  The meetings are free.  The experience is worth -- well, more than that.

5.  Actors for Leverage.  A woman sneaks into her home at 2 AM trying not to wake anyone and is surprised to find her marital bed still made and unoccupied.  She finds her husband in the kitchen with a bottle. He seems convinced that she is having an affair.  But she is adamant  in convincing him (and the audience) that she is in love with him and that she would never stray. Seeking two women and two men from 20's to 40's. Race open.  Will shoot the week end of February 14-16.  Brief HBO style nudity for lead male and lead female roles.  No HBO for supporting male and supporting female role.  Send resume and head shot to Ms. YaYa Perez at syndicatedevangelist@gmail.com

6.  Ball and Chain.  A comedic web series about three best friends who meet once a week to escape the clutches of their overbearing wives and children.  Shooting will take place in Tucson.  Send resume and headshot to ballandchaintheseries@gmail.com.

7.  Act One Academy.  Take a class at Act One.  Check out their wardrobe class and their wardrobe design class.  They take you from needle and thread to concept and design.  It's a cool gig.   Act 1 Academy of the Performing Act, 7878 East Wrightstown Road. act1academy@gmail.com

8.  Almost Famous 48 Hour Film Challenge.  Nine Buddhas Pictures is participating in the Almost Famous 48 Hour Film Challenge on February 14 -16.  Write on Friday, Shoot on Saturday, Edit on Sunday.  If you are interested in acting or in being part of the production team send an e-mail, resume and head shot to ninebuddhas@gmail.com.  Tell them a little about what you have done and what you want to do on the project.

9.  Top 100 Actors.  IFASA will be announcing its list of the TOP 100 Actors in Southern Arizona at its March 4, 2014 Meeting.  You can nominate actors (open as to number) simply by sending their names and e-mail addresses to ifasalist@gmail.com.  If you provide resumes, headshots, and or links they will be forwarded to our panel of expert judges.

10.  Support SB1098. You can show your support by:

  • Attending the hearing
  • Signing up to testify at the hearing
  • Contacting your legislators to ask or thank them for their support. Click here and then click "Show Sponsors" to see who has already signed on in support.

Why do we need a Governor’s Office of Film and Media to attract and facilitate film, television and commercial production?

Here are 10 Reasons:

  1. Tells a 175 billion dollar Industry that Arizona is "Open for Business"  [MPAA.org]
  2. Brings more high wage jobs for an existing workforce
  3. Spreads Economic Impact in urban and rural communities across the state
  4. Brings new Tax Revenues
  5. Small, local businesses benefit
  6. Tourism increases
  7. Offers training and networking opportunities for Media students at state schools
  8. Film + TV production business is both clean and recession proof
  9. The Industry is our neighbor and wants to be here
  10. Helps to revive Arizona’s film legacy

Help us be successful in re-establishing our state’s film office this year.
