SLOWGIRL

by Greg Pierce

(Arizona Premiere)

September 11-28, 2014

A teenage girl flees to her reclusive uncle’s retreat in the Costa Rican jungle to escape the aftermath of a horrific accident, forcing the two to both confront who they are as well as what it is they are running from.

Directed by Christopher Johnson

THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY OF STEVE JOBS

by Mike Daisey

(Arizona Premiere)

Late-Night: September 12-27, 2014

Mike Daisey turns his razor-sharp wit to America's most mysterious technology icon in this hilarious and harrowing tale of pride, beauty, lust, and industrial design while following the trail all the way to China to investigate the factories where millions toil to make iPhones and iPods. Daisey's journey shines a light on our love affair with our devices and the human cost of creating them.

Directed by Evan Werner

DEATH OF A SALESMAN

by Arthur Miller

November 6-23, 2014

A painful examination of American life and consumerism, Miller's extraordinary masterpiece changed the course of modern theatre. In creating Willy Loman, his destructively insecure anti-hero, Miller himself defined his aim as being 'to set forth what happens when a man does not have a grip on the forces of life.'

Directed by Glen Coffman

UNITED

by Toni Press-Coffman

(World Premiere)

February 5-22, 2015

UNITED explores the lives of the passengers and crew members of United Flight 93, who came together on September 11, 2001 in an attempt to take back the plane from terrorists and saved the lives of an incalculable number of people. We meet each person through scenes on and off the plane as we accompany an adopted woman who believes one of her birth parents died onboard.

Directed by Christopher Johnson

THE TEMPEST

by William Shakespeare

Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using illusion and skillful manipulation. The action moves from the chaos of the eponymous storm to the creation of a new order, from retribution to reconciliation, and from exile to reunion in fantastical fashion.

and

ROUGH MAGIC

by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

(Arizona Premiere)

Performed in repertory: April 16-May 10, 2015

Set 500 years after the events of William Shakespeare’s THE TEMPEST, ROUGH MAGIC presents a Caliban that has escaped Prospero’s island and is on the run from his sadistic and powerful master. He finds himself in modern-day New York where he joins forces with a dramaturg with magical powers and a love-struck lifeguard who might just be the child warrior fated to save the world.

Directed by Glen Coffman and Evan Werner

Winding Road Theater Ensemble is a group of artists whose mission is to tell dynamic, theatrical stories that illuminate the human condition and celebrate the theater’s power to entertain us, to move us, and to bring us joy. Inspired by the disparate creative journeys that eventually brought us together, WRTE has a special commitment to developing new work by living American playwrights. We fulfill our mission by producing seasons of contemporary and classic works representing diverse styles, themes, and perspectives; and by presenting readings, workshops, and full productions of new plays.
